They Lost It at the Movies

Charlton Heston, dressed for disaster in a tight-fitting lemon sweater in “Airport 1975,” may have been making a fashion statement 33 years ago as he rescued a 747 that had been rendered pilotless. But the actor’s appearance drew a very different interpretation from the Thursday night crowd at Clearview Chelsea Cinemas.

“Love the muffin top,” Douglas Clark, a 39-year-old freelance editor, whispered to a friend in the next row, alluding to Mr. Heston’s slight middle-age paunch. “Is that nylon, Chuck?”
