This Is Who I Am – An Interview with Ron Megee, Starring in Unicorns La Cage

CampKC.com – by J. W. Arnold

No one really expected we had seen the last of Kansas City?s bad boy of the stage, Ron Megee, when Late Night Theatre closed its doors months ago. Megee, the creative force behind the irreverent troupe that performed to packed houses in an improvised storefront theater, had earned a national reputation and devoted following over 10 years with his campy takes on classic films and popular culture. Megee returns to the stage this weekend through Sept. 9, again dressed as a woman, to star as Albin in Unicorn Theatre?s production of the ultimate drag musical, La Cage Aux Folles. Camp caught up with Megee between final technical rehearsals to discuss the production, his career, the resurrection of Late Night Theatre, and even a little politics.

Camp: You?re back on the stage! Tell us about your latest project.

Megee: It?s been nice to take a break [after the close of Late Night Theatre”>, but it?s also great to get back on stage. I?m going to play Alban in La Cage Aux Folles at Unicorn Theatre. The show is so incredible, such a great love story. I?m playing a drag queen who has been through it all. It just fits me.
