Brotherly love

Over the last decade or so you’ve read many stories in this column about my 13-year-old adopted brother Skye, whom I’ve raised like he was my own son.

There was the column about the day Skye described a drag queen to his kindergarten teacher. “In all my years teaching,” Miss Rose – beaming – told me when I picked Skye up at school, “I have never heard a student use the term drag queen!”

There was the time in grade 1 when he told several classmates that I’m gay. “Eeew!” one female classmate replied, scrunching up her nose.

There was his first Gay Pride when he sat on my shoulders for the entire parade, waving a rainbow flag.
