Lowell, Mass. (AP) – Three young Lowell men have been indicted on charges they assaulted a man because of his sexual orientation.

The Middlesex district attorney’s office says the alleged victim was attacked while walking home alone from a nightclub in the early morning hours of June second.

Jules Ruggs, Jeffrey Buchanan and Jonathan Artis — all 19 — were arrested a short time after the attack.

The alleged victim — who considers himself a transsexual — told police the attackers yelled slurs and said “we don’t like your kind in our neighborhood.”
