Transexual tennis star beaten at Buenos Aires tournament – By Staff Writer,

It has been over three decades since Renee Richards became the first transsexual in professional tennis. However, a Chilean transsexual called Andrea Paredes von Roth made her debut in Buenos Aires in a Futures tournament at the age of 37 yesterday.

Even though Ms von Roth was thrashed 6-0 6-0 by British qualifier, Nicola Slater, she told the Clarin newspaper: “It’s a dream come true for me.”

Ms von Roth was born July 4, 1971 as Ernesto Paredes but underwent a sex-change operation in October 2009.
