The year 2007 saw unprecedented coverage of issues related to transgenderism. On April 27, ABC’s “20/20” aired “My Secret Self: A Story of Transgender Children,” a touching account from Barbara Walters who sat down with children struggling with gender identity.
In April, MSNBC also aired “Born in the Wrong Body,” an hour-long documentary, following the lives of five young transgender people. The May 21 issue of Newsweek focused on “Rethinking Gender” and shed light on the mysteries of gender identity.
Even the Oprah Winfrey show televised several shows in September and October dealing with intersex and other transgender-related issues.
