Norfolk – People will gather tonight at a Norfolk church to remember those killed by anti-transgender violence.

The 2007 Transgender Day of Remembrance, sponsored by New Life MCC Transgender Outreach, will begin at 7 p.m. at the Church of the Ascension Episcopal, 405 Talbot Hall Road.

The event was held last year for the first time in Hampton Roads. It began in 1999 in San Francisco to remember the death of a Massachusetts transgender woman, Rita Hester, and draw attention to anti-transgender violence.
