Martinez — A Bay Area transgender youth advocate was sentenced to four years in prison Monday for fatally stabbing her boyfriend at his Walnut Creek home last year — a killing a defense attorney said was self-defense.
“She was acting in self-defense and I think the negotiated resolution reflects this,” said deputy public defender Evan Hoppin, attorney for 25-year-old Oakland resident Akira Jackson. “He was armed with a bat and that was undisputed.”
