Transsexual pulls out of champs

Injury has ruled controversial transsexual Canadian rider Michelle Dumaresq out of next week’s world mountain biking championships in Rotorua.

BikeNZ events manager Ted Jones confirmed the withdrawal of the Canadian downhill champion today.

“She pulled out because of a knee injury,” he told NZPA.

Canada can not replace Dumaresq, as registration for riders had closed, Jones said.

Dumaresq, 36, was born a man. She has been a target of controversy since being officially accepted by her national federation as a woman in 2002.
