(Los Angeles, California) A transsexual being held in detention awaiting a deportation hearing has died in what her family claim was a lack of medical treatment for HIV.
Victoria Arrelano was being held at an immigration detention center in San Pedro.
Arrelano had been deported from the US back to her native Mexico in 2003 but returned to the US and was again picked up by the INS.
She had been in detention since the middle of May awaiting a hearing.
Arrelano died three weeks ago at a San Pedro hospital the Los Angeles Times reports.
