(Bloomberg) — U.S. businesses would be banned from firing workers because of their sexual orientation or gender identity under legislation considered today by a House of Representatives committee.

The bill would prohibit discrimination based on actual or perceived sexual orientation of an employee, adding to existing prohibitions of bias against people for their sex, religion, race or national origin. Companies with 15 or more employees would be covered.
