The University of California at San Francisco has relinquished nearly $1 million in federal grants that support two programs that serve the transgender community.

Meanwhile, members of the Board of Supervisors Tuesday requested the city controller perform a review of services funded by the city, including the effect of the now likely closure of the two UCSF programs that are housed under its Center for AIDS Prevention Studies.

On May 10, UCSF sent letters to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration relinquishing the grants. The $470,000 CDC grant funded the Transitions program. The $450,000 SAMHSA grant was for the TRANS project.

Both projects are scheduled to close on June 30.
