From 1995 to 1999, urnotalone.com was just a collection of geocities web pages. Over the years, as URNA has grown, so have our resources. First, we expanded out from free web hosting, to our own dedicated server. Then we undertook a massive conversion from Microsoft Windows to Linux. Only a few years later, we expanded to two servers, one dedicated solely for our databases. Then, over the years, we upgraded those systems as time and money permitted.
Now, in 2005, ten years after our little odyssey began, we are about to institute our largest upgrade to date. Soon, URNotAlone will be powered by Dual 3 GHz Xeon CPUs with 4 GB of memory. In addition to that, our database server will also be upgraded with the same specs.
On Sunday night, we will disable member profile logon (ModelTs content subscriptions will still function) and you won’t be able to access your profile. Once this is done, we will begin copying the files and database to the new servers. Hopefully, by Tuesday morning, the entire process will be complete and you will find that URNA has become much faster and more responsive.
Even though profile logon will be disabled, you will still be able to browse profiles, contact members and use our basic services. There probably will be a temporary disruption in chat as well.
This upgrade will dramatically improve speed and performance on the site, making your experience more fulfilling and allowing us to add even more great features for our members and visitors.
We would like to thank all of our great members for the support, and to thank you for letting us join you on your own journey’s. The first ten years have definitely been interesting. Here’s to another ten!
