Regulations to be eased if bill approved

Srinakharinwirot University has no objection to male transsexual students sharing the same dormitory with female students, rector Wiroon Tangcharoen said.

Mr Wiroon, also a member of the National Legislative Assembly (NLA), has thrown his support behind a draft bill to allow transsexuals to change titles before their names from ”Mr” to ”Ms” or ”Mrs” or vice versa.

The bill, proposed by NLA member Juri Vichitvathakarn, is to be tabled before the body for consideration.

The bill is supposed to be enacted in accordance with a provision in the draft constitution which recognises the basic rights and status of homosexuals.

The Constitution Drafting Assembly (CDA) previously agreed to give gay, lesbian, transgender and transvestite groups official status to end discrimination.
