Victor/Victoria shines, so sit back and enjoy it

Remember how terrific the Show Palace Dinner Theatre’s production of Chicago was three years ago?

Victor/Victoria, the gender-bending musical that opened Friday for a six-week run there, is as good as that one.

Nope. Take that back. Victor/Victoria is better than the record-shattering Chicago, element by element, scene by scene.

The scores of costumes (yes, the very ones worn by the Broadway cast members) are stunning, Tom Hansen’s eight complicated sets are marvels of design and movement, his lighting, scrim curtains and backdrops divine, Stan Collins’ music tracks outstanding and Todd Eskins’ direction right on the money.

But it’s the perfectly chosen cast that could push this delightful show right into the record books.
