Wig-makers top off U.S. Body Painting Festival in Albuquerque with wild hair art

Thick, colorful paint was nearly the only thing that covered the bare skin of strutting models last year at the first U.S. Body Painting Festival in Albuquerque.

But despite the bodies on display, it was the models’ wigs that viewers found hard to take their eyes off.

With a year of experience under their belts, local wig-makers Lorenzo Colorado and Sophia Matthews plan to top off the artists’ living canvases when doors open tonight at the Embassy Suites Hotel for the festival’s second year.

“This year is about the wig-makers,” Matthews said.

About 40 artists will take part in the three-night festival that starts today.
