Kurashiki, Okayama — A court has awarded some 25 million yen in damages to a woman living as a man by calculating her lost earnings as a male employee following an accident, it has been learned.

The Kurashiki branch of the Okayama District Court made the decision in October last year after a woman in her 30s from Chiba Prefecture — who is suffering from gender identity disorder and is living as a man — filed a suit over a traffic accident that left her with serious injuries.
