Workshop on transgender teacher will go online

Batavia – Parents can check the Batavia City School District’s Web site today to see what their high school students will be taught about transgender issues.

If parents prefer that their students not be part of such first-day-of-school discussions, the parents can write a note and the district will make other arrangements for these students, said district Superintendent Richard Stutzman Jr.

The meeting with students is the next step for the district, which has already met with parents and trained staff to support a transgendered science teacher who will start the school year as a woman.
