Yahoo is promoting several of its services, including MyWeb 2.0, HotJobs, Shopping and Personals, on a microsite celebrating Gay and Lesbian Pride Month throughout June.
The site at http://events.yahoo.com/pride06 also features a Travelocity search box at the upper right corner where visitors can find “gay friendly” hotels as well as cruises and travel deals for the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender market, the site states.
The gay and lesbian community is lucrative for advertisers who recognize the spending power of these travelers. The gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender travel market is worth $76.5 billion and will grow by $20 billion over the next five years, according to a recent report from research firm Mintel, Chicago.
Another focal point of the Yahoo site is an events calendar where users can search for Gay and Lesbian Pride events in their areas. And Yahoo’s Flickr photo-sharing service lets users post photos from various Gay Pride events.
On the microsite, Yahoo also promotes employment with Yahoo, stating that the company endorses the proposed Employment Non-Discrimination Act.
