I’d seen the names on the guest list – people I’d written about, dear friends, faithful readers, gay hipsters who outdress the trendiest socialites. But until they started coming up the driveway and into Barbara Venezia’s backyard, I couldn’t believe they’d really all coalesced to create the kind of soiree a Lompoc boy who grew up hunting and working on old cars could only dream of hosting: A drag-queen Tupperware party in Newport Beach.
