Sexual allegations were made against Mount Dora lieutenant

Mount Dora – Dogged by accusations that he sexually abused and threatened a transvestite last month as well as the subsequent disclosure of sexual allegations dating back more than 14 years with a previous employer, police Lt. Roger Chilton decided Wednesday he had had enough.

“Due to recent events that have occurred there has been a great deal of stress in my personal life and for my family, therefore, it is with a heavy heart that I come to you with my official notice to resign . . . ,” Chilton wrote in a letter to police Chief Randy Scoggins.

Chilton, the Police Department’s spokesman and patrol operations commander, had been placed on administrative leave with pay since Nov. 29.

His attorney, Samuel Oliver, told reporters at a news conference at his Tavares law office that Chilton resigned to save his 11-year-old son from being taunted and ridiculed at school.
