Cedar Rapids – A local establishment, that’s credited with bringing two very different cultures together, is closing its doors.
The Dragon Nightclub, one of only three gay bars in the corridor, is closing its doors in two weeks. Owner Dan Beltz says, “I think it comes to a point where where you know in your heart it’s time to move on.”
But regulars are having a hard time saying good bye. Drag Queen Vaneesha Blinds says, “I am quite frankly heartbroken.”
It’s such a loss because many of these patrons credit the Dragon with promoting acceptance here in Cedar Rapids. Patron Will Hatchel says, “Everybody has an idea of what a gay bar is and the Dragon changed that because of the mix of the crowd.”
