Novelist Masae Torai, who changed gender to a male after disclosing that he has gender identity disorder (GID), has begun lecturing at Rikkyo University in Tokyo as a part-time instructor.

In his first lecture on Wednesday, Torai pointed out problems involving the Law concerning Special Cases in Handling Gender for People with Gender Identity Disorder, which has paved the way for such people to change their gender in their family registries.

“The current law doesn’t allow people with children to change their gender and involves other problems,” Torai said.

Torai explained to students what GID means and how it can change. He also disclosed that he went to the United States four days after graduating from university to undergo gender change surgery.
