Chennai – For thousands of transgender persons in India, working in an office has always been a dream — but a city-based firm is all set to make this a reality.
For the first time in the country, an ambitious vocational training programme for transgenders has been initiated here by Stenographers Guild, a recruitment firm.
S V Ramaswamy, its honorary president, said, “Our programme aims to impart office management skills to around 2,000 trans-sexual people in two years.”
As a first step, the Guild began training the first batch of 20 people from February 19. The two-month course covers MS Office, front office management, data processing, spoken English, presentation and language skills.
The Guild plans to employ some of the trained transgenders in its own office and will persuade other companies to hire them as stenographers, company secretaries and front office managers.
