Mass. Trans Coalition elects new leaders

BayWindows.com – Ethan Jacobs

As the Massachusetts Transgender Political Coalition (MTPC) prepares to launch a statewide campaign to pass a trans-inclusive nondiscrimination bill, two veterans of the Bay State?s transgender movement, Diego Sanchez and Holly Ryan, have stepped forward to take the reins of MTPC and prepare the organization for what will likely be the toughest battle it has ever faced. As part of that effort, Sanchez and Ryan are adding more structure to the organization.

Sanchez explained that prior to MTPC?s May 8 vote to elect him and Ryan as co-chairs, treasurer Gunner Scott had served as the group?s de facto leader but all of the decisions about MTPC were made by consensus among the membership; the most basic decisions about the organization required discussions among all the members at MTPC meetings. Sanchez said the new leadership structure will give him and Ryan more freedom to make decisions that are crucial to keeping the group running smoothly and efficiently.
